The uniform supplier does not have the uniform size of my child. Can my child come to school in his primary school uniform?

A1.

If the uniform supplier does not have the size for your child, please do a pre-order from the supplier. Your child can attend school in Peicai Secondary School’s PE attire (if available), if not, his/her primary school uniform/PE attire.

Why is Tamil Language not offered at Peicai Secondary?

Similar to some other schools, due to the small size of the cohort, resources are maximised at designated TL centres.

Where do students go for Tamil Language lessons?

A2.

Students, who offer TL, will need to attend TL lessons at designated TL centres. For Peicai Secondary School, the designated TL centre by MOE is at Umar Pulavar Tamil Language Centre (UPTLC). Please refer to their website at https://www.uptlc.moe.edu.sg/.

Does Peicai Secondary offer Higher Mother Tongue?

Yes. Peicai Secondary offers Higher Chinese/Malay at Secondary One. However, Higher Tamil students will attend lessons at Umar Pulavar Tamil Language Centre (UPTLC). Please refer to their website at https://www.uptlc.moe.edu.sg/.

Are lessons for TL and HTL at the centres conducted during curriculum time?

No. It is conducted outside curriculum time. Depending on the centre, timing and curriculum days will vary. While in school, your child/ward will do an independent self-study during the MTL periods in the library or other assigned venue to engage himself/herself productively during these periods which are still within the curriculum hours on a school day.

What happens if lessons at the designated centres outside Peicai Secondary School clashes with CCA, extra lessons after school and enrichment classes in school?

Activity/Lessons in school will take precedence. Special arrangement will be made if the student is required to attend the session early due to examination.

Q6.

What happens to my child/ward who is offering Non-Tamil In Lieu of Mother Tongue (Hindi/Gujerati/Bengali/Panjabi/Urdu) or Asian/Foreign Languages?

Your child will need to attend the lessons at their respective centre or institutions. While in school, your child/ward will do an independent self-study during the MTL periods in the library or other assigned venue to engage himself/herself productively during these periods which are still within the curriculum hours on a school day.

Is it compulsory for all students to have a CCA?

Yes, it is compulsory for all students to have at least one CCA in school.

Q2.

If my child has an external CCA, is he/she allowed to be excused from CCA in school?

A2.

No, it is compulsory for ALL students to have at least one CCA in school. However, students/parents may request to participate in inter-school competitions under the name of the school for the external CCA. For example, Peicai Secondary School does not offer Taekwondo. However, students/parents may request to represent Peicai and participate in the inter-school Taekwondo competition. Note that the joint-cluster schools CCA for Table Tennis (Boys) is considered as a CCA offered by Peicai Secondary School rather than an external CCA.

Which is the CCA day in Peicai?

There is no fixed CCA day in Peicai. All CCAs are scheduled on different days so as to facilitate venues constraints. There are no CCAs on Wednesdays.

How frequent are CCA sessions?

A5.

There is no fixed frequency for CCA sessions. Depending on the nature of CCAs, the frequency varies from once to twice a week. Do note that during certain seasons, students may require more training sessions to prepare for the matches/performances. Students will be informed by their respective CCA Teacher-In-Charge.

Will there be face-to-face sessions where students get to mingle with the current CCA students?

Yes, there will be a CCA Open House, on 12 January 2024 (Fri).

Q2.

Is there a briefing on how CCAs can be selected?

A2.

Yes, during the CCA Open House (opening segment), students will be briefed on the steps for CCA selection. More details will be shared during the briefing.

Will the new students get to watch performances from the Performing Arts (PA) Groups?

A3.

Yes, students will visit the training venues of these CCAs and watch a short performance prepared by the PA-CCAs.

Is it compulsory for all students and parents to attend the CCA Orientation?

A4.

It is only compulsory for all Secondary One students. Parents are strongly encouraged to attend in order to understand the LEAPS system better.

Will there be a make-up of this CCA Open House if students/parents miss this session?

A5.

No, there will not be any make-up session. Secondary One students will not have any after-school activities on that day and hence, all Secondary One students should be able to attend the CCA Open House.

Is it compulsory for all Secondary One students to attend the Secondary One Orientation?

A1.

Yes. Secondary One Orientation is a milestone for all Secondary One students who enter the school as it will be the first platform for them to get to know their classmates, school and teachers.

What is the purpose of the Secondary One Orientation?

A2.

Secondary One Orientation is the first platform for Secondary One students to be more familiar with their classmates, teachers and the school. Students build closer bonds within the class and a stronger class and school identity. Through Secondary One Orientation, students will be better assimilated into Peicai Secondary School and will have a greater sense of belonging and pride to the school.

Can my child go off earlier during the Secondary One Orientation?

A3.

All Secondary One students are expected to be present throughout the duration of the programme. Please inform your child’s respective form teachers should there be a need to leave school.
