Craft & Technology
The Craft & Technology Department in Peicai comprises four academic disciplines: Art, Design & Technology (D&T), Music and the Nutrition & Food Science (NFS) Unit. Three of the subjects, Art, Design & Technology (D&T) and Food & Nutrition (F&N), are offered to the upper secondary students. A component of these subjects are coursework based.
Art
In Peicai, we aim to develop our students’ artistic sensibilities that will enable them to.
Make connections between visual expressions and personal experiences and view the world around them in new ways.
Inculcate their creativity to explore and develop in the various stages by making references to and integrating knowledge of artists/artworks with their own art making.
Gain an understanding of real world applications of Art through different media

Art Learning Journeys and Competitions:
Our students are given opportunities to participate in Art Competitions and events such as Singapore Youth Festival Art Exhibition.
Students also have the opportunity to broaden their learning experiences beyond classrooms. The unit organized learning journeys to Art Museums.
Secondary 3 Art Enrichment
Secondary 3 Art students can look forward to an exciting range of media such as painting, photography, digital art, and paper cut.
Aesthetics Week
Students participate in various activities aimed at developing an appreciation for the Arts. Activities conducted encourages creative expression and imaginative play in the art making processes.
DESIGN & TECHNOLOGY
In Peicai, we aim to
to develop confidence, pride and tenacity through exploring real-world design opportunities for which ideas are developed
cultivate thinking through doodling, sketching/drawing and experimentation of prototype ideas using appropriate materials and tools
build on innate curiosity, ability to create, exercise judgements and make evidence-based decisions of a technological, aesthetic and economic nature.

the use of SCAMPER, Shape Borrowing and Random lines trigger techniques for ideation.
modelling visualization of design and elements of design so as to help build on students’ ideas.

Programmes
Students participate in the ‘IgnITE’ Skills Challenge 2022, organised by Institute of Technical Education (ITE) - Creative Maquillage. Students had to apply design thinking concept in D&T to design a creative makeup look to enhance the sales of a makeup palette. They used digital mood board and makeup apps to create a makeup look and promote the makeup palette on social media.
Music
In Peicai Secondary School, we aim to develop in students the competencies that will enable them to:
Express themselves through various genres to help them appreciate the music around them.
Learn about basic music elements and concepts of rhythm and harmony through music creation.
Deepen their appreciation for music through the process of active listening by performing and creating music

Equipping students with the necessary musical skills and knowledge of instrumental playing (ukulele and keyboard).
Engaging students in analysing and evaluating musical works.
Infusing technological skills in song arrangements and song writing.
We provide a two year lower secondary music curriculum to develop and equip our students with the fundamental skills and techniques in music making. It is also aligned to the school’s Aesthetic Education Programme where music is seen as an integral part of students’ lives. We believe that every child should be given the opportunity to develop his/her potential in creative expression through Music education in school.
NUTRITION & FOOD SCIENCE UNIT
In Peicai, we aim to
nurture students who take an active role in bettering the lives of those around them through their knowledge in nutrition,
health and food science.develop confident individuals who are able to make discerning judgement through essential knowledge and skills on food

Programmes
Project Heart @ Peicai
Project Heart@Peicai integrates skills learned during Food & Consumer Education (FCE) lessons with 21st Century competencies. It adopts a values-based approach to make learning more authentic.
Leveraging on the school’s partnership with Lions Club Singapore Nanyang, Students serve food, educate and entertain elderly from Lions Befrienders, preparing and serving them meals, while teaching them about healthy living, and interacting via conversation, games and the sharing of knowledge and personal lives.
During the pandemic, students produce health videos to educate elderly on diseases and ways to lead a healthier lifestyle.
Food Science Competition
2019- Picky Palette for young children
Students planned and prepared a nutritional dish and low sugared drink that are able to meet the nutritional needs of young children.
2020- Picky Palette for teenagers
Students incorporated the knowledge and skills learnt in both Nutrition and food science and ALP STEM lesson to produce an Instagram worthy dish and drink that is suitable for a teenager.
2021- Nutriboost
Students planned and prepared a main dish to satisfy the nutritional needs of the young adult with a health issue.
They also created a dietary supplement to complement the main dish and boost their health.
